What is the Orthodox Church?
St. Athanasius the Great is often quoted as saying, “Orthodoxy is what Christ taught, the apostles preached, and the Fathers kept.” The Eastern Orthodox Church is a Christian tradition that traces it’s beginnings back to Christ and His Apostles. The Apostles are those who heeded the command of Christ and went into the world and disciples of all people. Christ said that He would be with them always, even to the end of the world, and that the gates of hell would not prevail against them. The Apostles preached the Gospel of Christ and established Christian communities where ever they went. The Christian communities planted by the Apostles are still with us today in the Orthodox Church. They hold the faith of the Apostles and worship the same Christ that the Apostles worshipped in an unbroken, uncorrupted, and uncompromised tradition that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, has remained unchanged for over two thousand years.
