Almeda Fire Relief – Update
It has been over five months since the devastating Almeda Fire, which destroyed significant parts of Talent and Phoenix, OR. Thousands of people were affected, many left homeless. We received generous donations from across the country (even some international gifts!), and we wanted to give an update on our continued relief work. Beside helping our own parishioners who lost their homes, our efforts have been focused on our local Latino families who were in many cases hit the hardest.
- In the wake of the fire we helped over a dozen homeless families find temporary shelter in hotels and motels in the area.
- We have been able to buy Christmas gifts and schools supplies for lots of families.
- We have bought tools and equipments to people who lost their means of livelihood in the fire.
- We are currently helping six families with rent/mortgage, for them to get on their feet again after losing everything.
- We have helped one household build a new foundation for their new mobile home.
- We have distributed several thousands of dollars worth of groceries, gas and grocery store gift cards to Latino families in need.
- We have packed and delivered “care packages” with things specifically requested by families in need.
We as a parish will continue to serve those affected by the fire to the best of our ability, and appreciate everyone’s donations and prayers.
